The Ivy is pleased to host Captain Michael Dodd for a signing and meet-and-greet around his book Chespeake Bay Odyssey: 23 Ports of Call with Historic Perspectives. This event will take place outdoors, on the front porch of The Ivy from 11-1 on June 18.
Captain Michael Dodd grew up in Baltimore and has spent many hours boating on the Chesapeake Bay. When he was a youngster, his family rented boats for overnight. For a week or more they toured the Bay in good weather or bad. They visited cousins, fished, swam, anchored out and ate on board. This was his favorite vacation. The fond memories stuck and as an adult he expanded his knowledge and horizons. Captain Dodd subsequently owned several sailboats and then powerboats. After appropriate testing, he was awarded a 50-ton US Coast Guard commercial captain’s license so he could take passengers for charter on his boat. His current vessel is a 1984 Hatteras 61-foot cockpit motor yacht. With this boat he and his wife, Maureen, toured the length of the Chesapeake Bay in 2020. His book, Chesapeake Bay Odyssey, 23 Ports of Call with Historic Perspectives, describes their journey. Each chapter begins with a historic perspective of the port, followed by interesting sights to see, marinas for tying up overnight and popular eateries. The easy-to-read formant makes the book attractive not only to yachtsmen and boaters of all stripes, but to anyone with an interest in American history. Serious boaters may want to keep a copy on their vessel.
