Lift Every Voice Virtual Book Club: A Panel Discussion of Middle Grade Fantasy and Science Fiction featuring authors Leah Cypess, Mari Mancusi and Fran Wilde (ages 9-12)

The Ivy is excited to welcome three celebrated authors whose latest books take us into the thrilling world of fantasy and adventure.
Thornwood by Leah Cypress features Briony, a young girl who lives in the shadow of her famous sister, Sleeping Beauty…until Briony wakes up after the 100-year curse and finds it is up to her to save her family and friends from the murderous Thornwood. This is a story of sisterhood, friendship, courage and determination. Kirkus describes Thornwood as “effervescent, thrilling, and practically perfect in every way.”
In Fran Wilde’s The Ship of Stolen Words, protagonist Sam loses his ability to apologize. In his adventure to get his words back, he enters the world of goblins and meets goblin word thieves, Tolver and his grandmother. Many adults help Sam along the way as he begins to understand that words are an important part of learning. Kirkus describes the book as “delightful and sure to keep readers looking for goblins long after the final page has been turned.”
Author of the beloved fantasy Dragon Ops, Mari Mancusi takes readers into a high-stakes video game world in Dragon Ops vs. Robots. Siblings Ian and Lily have returned to normal life, except that Ian keeps seeing the dragon, Atreus, everywhere, and he can't tell whether it's real or in his imagination. When Ian and Lily sign back online, it's clear that Atreus has truly been released on the open web. It's back into virtual reality, but this time it's to Mech Ops, a futuristic world of zombies and evil robots. “Readers who enjoyed the first book will be happy to get their hands on this one too!”
